PRACTICE-PICTURE DESCRIPTION-MEMORY GAME
The Past Progressive is used to describe actions that happened at a specific time in the past (the "now" in the past or the "present continuous" in the past as I explain my students)
In the following pictures students must describe what is happening trying to build full sentences.
PICTURE A
In Picture A (Action Image) Students tell the rest of the class "what is hapening" using the present progressive to do so, which will be useful to review this tense and also to compare with the past progressive in Picture B
In Picture A the teacher may also guide and control the activity by asking the students: "What is the robot doing?" to elicit the answer "The robot is giving an icecream to the little girl"
PICTURE B (MEMORY GAME)
Show the students this picture and tell them to concentrate on it for 1 minute without saying anything, just trying to memorize what is happening in the picture. After 1 minute just hide the picture and ask them: "What was happening?" if you want them to raise their hands and tell you or "What was the robot doing?" for a more guided answers to elicit "It was carrying a suitcase"
